What's New @ hijulez!

What's New @ hijulez!

It's been an exciting past few months exploring new ways to create clothing that cause as little harm as possible to the environment and to people. Using what we have have learned, hijulez is now operating using only second hand fabrics and other recycled materials in order to minimize our impact on the environment. We are so excited about our new path forward and can’t wait to share our zero waste products with you.

So what exactly have we been doing for the last few months? Instead of purchasing materials from a fabric store we have been challenging ourselves to source fabric from second hand stores, thrift stores, and yard sales. Sometimes this comes in the form of a blanket that is transformed into a sweater, or other times I find a shirt that can be dissembled and made into something new.

We have also continued to find new ways to use fabric scraps and give them new life. We patch together our fabric scraps to make new creations and although this is a time consuming process, it creates a rich combination of patterns and textures.

We haven’t stopped exploring with natural dyes either. With the change of season comes a whole new variety of available material that can be used for natural dying. Have you seen those red Japanese maple leaves that have been falling? I can’t wait to see how they will work as a textiles dye!

Prints! We have been and will continue to add new prints to the website. We love this new way to share our art with you so keep an eye out for new additions coming soon.
